The Directorate of Katchi Abadies perform the following functions:
- Identification and declaration of Katchi Abadis under the Punjab Katchi Abadis Act, 1992
- Regularization, development and improvement of Katchi Abadis through Development Authorities and Local Governments
- Low-cost housing and re-development schemes
